Thomas John Redd

Thomas John Redd, aged 65, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family in the early morning hours on March 30, 2020.
Tom was born on September 13, 1954 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Smellie & Laurel Redd. He spent his youth on a farm in Grassy Lake, Alberta. He proudly served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the France Switzerland mission from 1973 – 1975.
While attending BYU, Tom met his sweetheart Cheryl (Sims) Redd in the Cougar Marching Band. Tom & Cheryl were married in the Manti temple for time and all eternity. They spent the next 41 years devoting their lives to church and family.
After receiving his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Tom spent the next 37 years teaching elementary school as well as classes in computer, band, and French. In 2005, Tom & Cheryl moved their family to the United States. Tom continued devoting his life to church service. He enjoyed working in the Jordan River temple and was involved in the Hill Cumorah Pageant for 7 years.
Tom enjoyed traveling with his family, especially if it involved camping in his trailer. Tom also loved technology and computers, poetry and music. He published several books of poetry that his family will forever hold dear.
Always missed, but never forgotten. Tom & Cheryl will forever walk hand in hand.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Taylor.
He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, his ten children Melissa [Brent]; Heather [Devin]; Aaron [Sarah]; Kari [Jed]; Laurel [Zach]; Dallin [Mikayla]; Jordan [Julie]; Emmalee; Nathan; Tyson, and by 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by 3 siblings Joan [Gilbert]; Will [Peggy]; Ellen [Dave].
Family, friends and those whose lives Tom touched are invited to the Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 S Redwood Rd in West Jordan, UT for a staggered viewing on Thursday, April 2 from 6pm-8pm. Tom’s immediate family welcomes you to a livestream of the graveside Friday, April 3 at 2:00 PM. The family wishes only family to be present at the graveside but the public is welcome to join the livestream.
The family requests that if you have any memories you would like to share, please send them to hopefortomredd@gmail.com.
Due to the landscape of the COVID-19 virus, the Federal Government and the CDC have limited all gatherings to a maximum of 10 people. Please keep this in mind when attending the staggered viewing. A group of 10 may enter at a time then filter out, allowing the next group to enter. While a group of 10 is in the building, please do not line up outside of the mortuary entrance. It is strongly advised to wait inside of your vehicle.
