Thelma Gwendoline Farrell

May 3, 1924 — July 10, 2019

Thelma Gwendoline Green Farrell peacefully returned home to Heavenly Father at the age of 95 on July 10, 2019. She was born May 3, 1924 in Handsworth, Birmingham, England to Walter William Edward Green and Florence Doris Evans.
Thelma leaves behind her children David (Vickie), Lori (Jon), and Deanne; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her younger brother Malcolm. Thelma is now reunited with her husband Russell; her parents Walter and Florence; her sisters Barbara and Patricia; her brothers Alan and Philip, and half-brother Ira; her great-grandson Daniel; and her son-in-law Bryant.
Thelma was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She was well known for her generosity and joyful spirit. She served in many church callings including serving an LDS mission to Great Britain and a service mission caring for the Salt Lake Temple gardens and grounds. Thelma also served as a Relief Society President and participated in the Relief Society Singing Mothers program touring Great Britain. She was passionate about service, particularly knitting and donating hundreds of hats for hospital patients and others in need thus warming countless heads and hearts.
Thelma had a thirst for adventure and a love of the ocean. She had planned to travel the world and made it as far as Hawaii where she met the love of her life and her future husband US Navy Corpsman, Russell Stanley Farrell. After writing letters for several months while Russ was at sea, they met in California where they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on December 28, 1956.
Thelma had a ‘green thumb’. She loved flowers and found great joy in gardening. She won many awards for her floral entries at the Utah State Fair. Anytime Thelma couldn’t be found, it was all but a guarantee that she was in her garden. She passed both her knowledge and passion for gardening on to her children and grandchildren.
One of Thelma’s greatest talents was writing poetry. She captured the sentimental moments, adventures and exquisite beauties in her life in poems that were both melodious and evocative. Her poetry is a gift to the entire family—reaching through generations and reminding us of her generous spirit and loving nature.

Little Deeds of Kindness
Many good deeds are done in the world
To many a friend in need,
And sometimes they go unnoticed
And are not seen as a want or a need.
Little deeds of kindness,
Unselfish acts of love,
May seem to go unnoticed
But are recorded up above.
