Terry Royal Seiter, our beloved father, papa honk-honk, family man, entrepreneur and friend … passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025, at the age of 80. Born in 1944, in Salt Lake City, Terry was one of six children of Helmut Seiter and Leona Shill.
Terry was a proud graduate of South High School, making sure his children knew and sang the school fight song – On South High! During and after high school, Terry started out as an estimator/installer for his dad’s Superior Floor Covering business on the corner of 7th East and 21st South, in Sugarhouse. He later owned his own cabinet business that grew into him becoming a General Contractor/Developer for over 60 years. He was dedicated and took pride in his work. Terry was beloved by his employees, vendors and colleagues.
Terry was a devoted husband, who married his eternal companion and the love of his life, Kriss Garff, for 42 years. Together, they built a loving home where they raised 5 wonderful children. Scott (Sue) Seiter, Colene (Bill) Lambourne, Todd (Cheryl) Seiter, Lisa (Jared) Fairbanks and Stacy Clifford. One of their favorite roles was being grandparents to 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Terry’s life was rich with adventures that brought love and connection to family and friends. His love of the outdoors included jeeping in the backcountry of Moab, racing around the sand dunes on 4 wheelers, golfing with his buddies early in the morning, and spending the summer months on the waters of Lake Powell, Pineview, Jordanelle, and Lake Havasu. He loved telling tall tales to all those who would listen. He was also known to be quite the barterer. He could barter the pants right off of you … and you’d enjoy it.
In his last few months, Terry’s memory faded, but he never lost his love for people. He always saw the good in others and strived to show kindness right up to his last days. A very special thanks to Terry’s siblings, Joy Hartmann, Prilla (Lloyd) Tilt, and youngest sister Dixie Seiter who lovingly supported and cared for him. Thank you to the many staff members at The Ridge of Cottonwood, Cornerstone Caregivers, A-Plus Hospice, and countless others who provided guidance, love, and time in caring for him.
Terry is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Kris Garff, his parents Helmut and Leona Seiter, his brother Arthur (Dale), and his sister Elaine (Laney) whom he has never met.
