Tekehu Steven Munanui

September 17, 2005 — December 7, 2024

West Jordan

Tekehu Steven Munanui returned home to his father in heaven on December 7, 2024. “TK” was born September 17, 2005, to Dean and April Munanui in Salt Lake City, UT. TK was a very determined person. In fact, so determined and excited to meet his family that he came 7 weeks early. His fighting spirit was evident from his first breath. TK was a competitor. Whether it was pick-up basketball with his cousins and uncles, board games with his family, or cross-country races with his teammates, TK wanted to win. That competitive spirit served him well as he became a very accomplished runner including a victory in his age division as a Senior at the Footlocker Western Regionals. His spirit was most evident when trying to beat his brother Temana at anything they could compete at.

Despite his competitive spirit, TK was also a friend and protector. He was a protector of his sisters, Vaiana and Analena, and had special relationships with each of them. He was very genuine and that made him a very adept at making friends. Many people were fortunate enough to call TK a friend in both his Copper Hills and Stansbury communities.

TK was very proud of his Cuban and Polynesian heritage. He carried both heritages with immense pride, honoring the traditions, values, and spirit of his cultures in everything he did. His musical talents were often on display while performing and participating in his cultural traditions. He was a fixture at family events and enjoyed participating in those cultures with his grandparents and extended family.

And regardless of his many talents and abilities, his biggest impact was as a son. TK had a huge heart and loved deeply. His love for his parents was only surpassed by their love for him. His passing has left a bottomless hole in our hearts, but we will hold his memory with us forever. TK, we love you – in both this life and the next!

TK is survived by his parents Dean and April Munanui, brother Temana, and sisters Vaiana and Analena. Grandparents, Papa U, Grandpa Allen, and Abuela along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparent Mama U and cousins Bryson and Sofia.
