Teddy “Ted” Sommer

October 8, 1932 — December 20, 2016

Ted was born on October 8, 1932 to Joseph and Belle Sommer in Bingham, UT. He met the love of his life, Shirley, at Blaine Elementary after moving to Salt Lake City. They were married April 12, 1952. He proudly served in the Thunderbird Division of the United States Army during the Korean War. He loved telling us stories about driving Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Bob Hope, and many other around during that time. When he returned home he started the first of many businesses which is still operating today, Sommer’s Auto Wrecking. Ted loved horses and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ted is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, his children Roseann (Scott) Ortar, and Teddy Sommer, his grandchildren, Kris Ortar, Ragun Ortar, Alisha Sommer, Colton Ortar, Kylie and Kole, seven great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Neldon, Merla, and Scott.
A viewing will be held on Friday, December 23 from 6-8 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 S. Redwood Rd, West Jordan.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, December 24 at 12 PM with a viewing one hour prior.
