Teddie Garrett

April 2, 1938 — November 14, 2019

Teddie Garrett passed away on November 14, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Dad was born in Pioche, Nevada on April 2nd 1938 to Ada and Norm Garrett and was named after Teddy Roosevelt. At the age of 13, he and his family moved to Guatemala where he picked up the language with ease. He then grew up in Minnersville, Utah and graduated from Beaver High School. He received his Bachelor Degree at Southern Utah State College and taught at many schools and coached basketball, retiring in 1997 from Granite School District.
He married Barbara Knell on August 29th 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple and were married for 60 years. He loved his kids and grandkids very much. He took pride in his yard and loved planting as many flowers as he could every summer.
Dad was a great guy and made friends where ever he went. Especially when he would go fishing with his cousin Paul Roberts at Henry’s Lake. Dad always looked forward to this adventure with Paul.
His second passion was golfing in the Heritage Golf League with his good friend Glenn Rasband, who was with Dad the day his heart stopped. Glenn said that it was the best shot of the day, November 11, 2019 on Hole No. 11.
Roberts Deer Camp was always a family tradition, hanging around the campfires, singing and telling stories.
In the early 70’s, we moved to Delta, Utah to own and operate Garrett Drive-In for 2 years, then moved to Cedar City until moving to Salt Lake in 1979, residing in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Teddie is survived by his children, Geri (Rich) Franz, Jon Garrett, Laurie Garrett (Lisa), Misty (Jeff) Barnett, Leeann (Bart) Anderson, Jennifer (Brent – deceased) Scovill, 20 grandkids and 11 great-grandkids that he cherished.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Barbara Knell Garrett, his parents Norm Garrett and Ada (Cecil) James and father and mother-in-law Harry and Georgia Knell, his granddaughter Jacie Jo Franz and son-in-law Brent Scovill.
We would like to send a heartfelt “Thank you” to the doctors and nurses for their care they have given Dad the past few days and to Glenn Rasband for helping Dad on the golf course. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
