Ted Stephens, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 75 in South Jordan, Utah. Born on May 31, 1949, in Salt Lake City, he brightened the lives of those around him with his humor and warmth.
A dedicated educator, Ted spent many years as a 3rd and 4th-grade teacher, leaving a mark on the hearts and minds of many students. His passion for teaching followed him into his position as a computer specialist for the Granite School District, where he helped teachers with their classroom media.
Family was important to Ted, and he enjoyed spending time with them. He loved country swing dancing with his wife, Diane Stephens, and going to the movies with his family. He even hosted movie nights with the many friends he made at Copper Creek Senior Living Center. Ted had a great sense of humor, known for making puns, short poems, and creating silly songs during road trips.
Beyond his dedication to teaching and family, Ted was also known as a tinkerer. He found great satisfaction in fixing things around the house, believing that if he could save money and do it himself, he would take on the challenge.
Ted’s life was marked by these proud accomplishments: First and foremost was being a father and grandfather. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree and as a member of the Phi Delta Kappa. His service as a veil worker at the Jordan River Temple held special meaning for him, reflecting his faith and commitment to family and the Savior.
Ted leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Diane and children, Jake (Alisha), Dustin, Brandon (Angie), and Dana; his sisters Claudia (Dave) Mecham and Faye (David) Hunt. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who hold a special place in his heart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alta LaVee Kenner and Ted E Stephens; and siblings Blair (Bonnie) Stephens, Lynda (Red) Andersen, and Beverly (Brian) Ford; along with his daughter Melinda, son Clinton, and son-in-law Gabriel (Dana) Crowther.
