Sylvia Weaver

June 6, 1924 — June 20, 2014

Sylvia Moray Weaver died early Friday morning, June 20, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. Sylvia celebrated her 90th birthday with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in the University of Utah Hospital on the day before her birthday and then made the courageous decision to move to hospice, saying that she was ready to join her beloved husband, Ted Lionel Weaver, who died in 1986.
Sylvia was born in Salt Lake City on June 6, 1924 to Ella Emma Ryser Moray and Thomas Henry Moray. Her husband, Ted Lionel Weaver, daughter, Susan Weaver Carver, sister, Evelyn Moray Haynes, and brother, Richard Ryser Moray preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, John Eugene Moray and (Emma Lou Moray), daughters Ann Weaver Hart (Randy Bret Hart) and Noel Weaver Groves (Daniel George Groves) and sons Lance Renor Weaver (LuAnn Harston Weaver) and Shaun Ted Weaver (Kerry Kathleen McNamara Weaver), 14 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Sylvia attended East High School and the University of Utah, where she graduated in May, 1945. That same week, she married her sweetheart, Ted, in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted had only recently returned to the U.S. in April after nine months missing in action in The Netherlands during World War II. She later returned to the University of Utah to earn her teaching certificate in elementary education and taught school from 1969 until her retirement in 1987. She loved travel, four-wheel drive camping in Canyonlands National Park, vacations at the family ranch in Squirrel Meadows, Wyoming, and her home near Mt. Olympus. She treasured her family, friends, and the beauties of the earth and nature. Sylvia’s love for the gospel guided her and comforted her throughout her life. She was a smart, kind, cheerful, and thoughtful woman who cheered up her caregivers in hospice with her warm smile and sincere thanks for their care. In a conditional world, she had mastered the art of unconditional love.
