Our wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Sylvia Jane Packer, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2022.
She was born September 22,1935 in Wilson, Arkansas to Arthur and Laura Louise Griffin.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother and father, sisters Bobbie Jean, Nona Fae, Ardie, younger brother Dale, her nieces Jackie and Joanne and her great-nephew Alex.
She is survived by her daughter Charlene, sons Kirk (Quinci), Craig (Sonja), Chad, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her sister Barbara and many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from West High school where she was a part of the drama team and was loved by her friends and peers. After high school, Sylvia married LaMar Hinnen on June 19,1957 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple.
She enjoyed being a stay- at- home mother to her four children. Their childhood was filled with warm memories of camping trips, parties with family friends, and many special holidays. She was a great seamstress, and made all her children’s clothes, which was always appreciated, but not always liked. Lol. She loved to cook, draw, and dress up as a witch for her kids’ school Halloween parties every year.
As her children grew older, she worked for Hillcrest Jr. High as a teachers aid for the resource class; the children absolutely adored her.
After her and LaMar were divorced, she married Don Packer for a short time.
Later in life, she loved going to P.W.P (parents without partners) and made many friends dancing the night away. She had a big heart and always made friends feel like they were a part of the family. During this time, she worked as a Printing Press Operator until retirement.
Sylvia had a beautiful smile and a contagious laugh and was always willing to go along with all our silly ideas-like crazy hats on Christmas Day for fun pictures! She loved spending time with her family for the holidays, going to plays, parties or even just going out to eat. She cherished the time she spent watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren, where some of her fondest memories were formed.
Sylvia loved the Lord and found hope and peace in doing Temple work and was a member of the Murray 11th Ward and South Cottonwood Ward where she fulfilled many callings.
We want to say a special thank you to Craig and Sonja Hinnen for opening their home to Mom during her last days. We appreciate That she was surrounded by family as she was welcomed into her Eternal home. We are so thankful for the hope of Heaven; where there is no more sadness, sickness, pain or tears. This hope tells us that she is in the presence of our Heavenly Father and loved ones who passed before her and that promise fills our hearts with Peace to know this is not goodbye but see you later!
