Sylvia Skog Henricksen, loving wife, mom, grandma, relative and friend, grew up in Murray and graduated from Murray High. She met the Love of Her Life shortly after graduating and they married on May 14, 1955. Two children came into their lives just 3 years apart, Richard and Dianne. We lived in Grandpa Skogs apartment for a few years and then moved to our NEW house in Taylorsville. Mom and Dad made us a great home with lots of love and comfort. Several years later, we moved back to Murray where they have lived ever since, 47 years. It was always Home, comfortable and welcoming. We never went without, Mom and Dad always made sure we had what was needed.
Mom was always home when we came home from school. She worked in the school kitchen until we moved on to Jr. High. Once we were in Jr. High, she started working full time, first at Sorenson Research and then Abbott Laboratories as a Q.A. Supervisor, retiring after many years. She also worked part time at the South Towne Convention Center and enjoyed being with people.
As we were growing up, Dad and Mom would take us camping and fishing. We traveled to Yellowstone, Flaming Gorge and Southern Utah. Once October arrived each year, it was the deer hunt down on South Nebo. Those were great and memorable hunts with family and friends. We spent many wonderful days at the “Gorge” camping and fishing the river. Strawberry was another favorite spot over the years.
Mom and Dad were so excited when we both FINALLY got married and Mom was so happy to have a new daughter (Tammie) and son (Randy). The excitement grew when grandchildren arrived, 7 of them! Brandon, Aaron, Karissa, Thomas, Matthew, Misty and Cody. Mom loved being GRANDMA! Her Grandma happiness grew when she became a Great Grandma with the arrival of Kaleb, Thistle and Trey. Heartache also came with the loss of 2 grandchildren, Misty and Aaron. There is a Grand Reunion and party going on right now as those 2 welcome Grandma.
Mom was always happy just being with Dad, they loved each other more than words can tell. They would often hook up the trailer and hit the road to see the sights. They traveled to the Grand Canyon, Southern Utah and Yellowstone many times. Both Mom and Dad loved being in the mountains and with each other.
Mom was a kind and caring person and would do anything to help. She enjoyed working in her yard and even at 70, would get out and mow the lawn. She fussed over Dad and took care of him. She taught us the necessities of life, how to cook (and she could cook), do laundry and keep our rooms straight and would always help us with homework…when we did it.
We will miss our mom, grandma and Dad’s sweetheart…she loved unconditionally. We Love You!.
Sylvia is survived by her loving husband; son, Richard (Tammie); daughter, Dianne (Randy) Jacobsen, 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and 3 great grandchildren. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, sister, granddaughter and grandson.
