Susan Lavon Lindley Erickson

December 10, 1927 — June 23, 2021

Susan LaVon Lindley Erickson, age 93, died on June 23, 2021, at her home in Millcreek, Utah. She was born in Salt Lake City on December 10, 1927, to Thomas and Harriet Dale Lindley. LaVon married the love of her life, Willard (Eric) Erickson on January 5, 1949, in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The following year LaVon and Eric were blessed with their first son, Steve, and with three additional children in the coming years: Arlou, Kevin, and Cindy.
LaVon was an accomplished artist, especially painting with watercolor. She setup a studio in her basement and created many beautiful works of art, though she always wished she had time for more. She was known for delicious foods, from baking cookies to packing lunches for her husband and children to bring to work—plus her Sunday pot roast and mashed potatoes were the best ever, bar none. She also enjoyed traveling with Eric after he retired, including cruises, a tour around Europe and an Alaskan adventure.
LaVon was known as having a big, kind heart and strived to serve those in need. She served in many capacities in the church, such as Relief Society president on two different occasions, many years in the primary, and several years at the Highland Cove assisted living community along with Eric. She was especially concerned that her close family and friends were comfortable and being taken care of. She spent a great deal of time and consideration each year sending out birthday cards and Christmas presents to every member of her family so all could feel her love.
Her servant heart was no more prominently displayed than when her son, Kevin, was paralyzed from the neck down at age 26 after a tragic accident in Lake Powell. Kevin moved back into his childhood home where LaVon became his primary caregiver for the next eight years of his life, until he passed away in 1991. She helped to bring up Kevin’s two young children, Jacob and Jared, through her loving service, example, and extended stays in her home as she helped fill in the gaps from Kevin’s limitations.
LaVon was preceded in death by her son, four brothers, and sister Rosemarie. She is survived by Eric, her children Steve (Bonnie) Erickson, Arlou Erickson, Cindy (Dal) McEwan, 8 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
The viewing and funeral services will be held at the Winderbrook Chapel, 4366 S 1500 E, Millcreek, UT. The viewing will be on Sunday, June 27, from 6:00-8:00, and Monday, June 28, from 10:00-10:45. The funeral will be on June 28 at 11:00. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens.
