Susan L. Smith

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend died at her home on December 24, 2020.  She was 72 years old.
Born August 17, 1948 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to parents Charles Newell Larsen Sr. and Ruth Vivian Peterson. She grew up in the Avenues area of Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. She married Jeffrey Lynn Smith on July 13, 1967. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River temple on July 9, 2005.
She worked for 30 years for the State of Utah as the Contract Specialist for the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management. She then spent another 7 years working at The Highland Cove Senior Living Community.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings.  She enjoyed serving others and loved doing genealogy. She put together binders for her kids and grandkids so they would know their family history.
One of her greatest joys in recent years was spending time with her five beautiful granddaughters, Hannah, Hailey, Olivia, Nicole, and Elsie.
She also enjoyed doing puzzles, watching old movies, going on trips with family or friends, and watching NASCAR races. Her favorite pastime of the past 20 years was spending time with her friends at the Highland Cove condominiums. She also loved Christmas time and would spend a whole year planning gifts and ways to make the holiday special.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Cathy. She is survived by her children, Deborah (Mark), Bob (Emily); and five granddaughters. She is also survived by her brother Charles (Kathryn), sister Wendy, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 10:00 am at Elysian Burial Gardens in Salt Lake City (1075 E 4580 S). In lieu of flowers, the family would recommend a donation be made to your favorite charity.
