Susan Kay Vatsend

January 23, 1949 — November 5, 2020

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend passed away on Thursday, November 05, 2020 with loving family by her side after a brief illness.
Susan was born January 23, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jay William Galli and Mary Jane (Rollo) Galli. She grew up in South Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High School. She married her high school sweetheart Donald Ray Vatsend on June 24, 1966 in the Salt Lake City temple. They were blessed with five children and eight grandchildren.
Susan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked hard to make sure her family was taken care of and had what they needed. She hosted countless parties and loved having her home filled with family and friends. She was an amazing cook and shared her talent by often cooking meals for others. She was very crafty and loved to sew. She especially loved sewing baby blankets and blankets for her loved ones. She was blessed to have a wonderful husband who worked hard so that she could be a stay at home mom. For fun she worked many summers at the Glendale Golf Course food court and made many great friends there. Susan was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved the gospel and had a firm testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved serving the Lord and she fulfilled every calling she had with her whole heart and always went the extra mile to help with ward parties and other events. She had a soft spot for the less fortunate and was always finding ways to give to those in need. She was so good to her friends and was always trying to show her love for them. She loved creating her outdoor fairy garden, traveling, decorating her house, working in her yard, cooking in her newly remodeled kitchen, playing games and so many other things. Above all else she loved to spend time with her family, she was the best wife, mom, grandma, daughter, sister and friend anyone could ask for. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Don of 54 years, her five children, Kari (Kris) Peterson, Downy (Rick) Kocherhans, Michael Vatsend, Amber Vatsend and Joseph Vatsend, her eight grandchildren, Josh (Sarah), Jordan and Hayley Kocherhans, Zach and Mekare Willis, Damion Morris and Grace and McClain Peterson. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Jane (Rollo) Galli, her three siblings Sheri (Dan) Wells, Shauna (Mike) Lasater, and Sky (Cindy) Galli, two aunts and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Jay William Galli.
