Steven Keith Winn

June 5, 1957 — January 28, 2025

Layton, Utah

Steven Keith Winn, 67, passed away on the morning of January 28th while doing what he loved most—serving as a crossing guard and ensuring the safety of the children in his community.

Born on June 5, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Steve was the beloved son of Keith Winn and Geraldine Brown Tobiason Winn.

Steve lived a full and meaningful life, marked by his dedication and love to his family, his military service, and his impact on the community. As a child, Steve grew up in Cottonwood heights with his parents and siblings. Steve loved spending his time deer hunting, shooting, and fishing at his favorite spot at Strawberry Reservoir. He was active in boy scouts and loved camping and being outdoors. As a teenager he bought his first truck and spent his weekends out in the desert riding with his best friend Rob. Steve graduated from Brighton Highschool and later earned a Bachelor’s degree from Weber State University.

Steve had a deep love for both his family and his country. At the age of 23, he enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard and proudly served for 26 years as an electronic computer technician, He firmly believed in the values of service, sacrifice, and commitment, and considered it a true honor to serve his country. Steve instilled in his children a profound appreciation for patriotism and the importance of sacrifice, passing down the lessons he learned through his own service.

Steve’s commitment to serving his community never wavered, and in his retirement, he embraced one of his most cherished roles as a crossing guard. He became a beloved figure in the neighborhood, known for his warmth and care as he ensured the safety of the children every day. Steve treasured the chance to greet the kids, always looking forward to their smiles. During the holiday season, he delighted in spreading joy by dressing up as Santa and bringing treats, creating moments of magic for the children he served.

Above all, Steve’s greatest love and devotion was to his family, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was a steadfast and loving husband, father and grandfather, always putting the needs of his loved ones above his own. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy, and he found fulfillment in his 10 children. His devotion to family was evident in the countless ways he showed his love—through quiet support, thoughtful gestures, and a listening ear.

Steve was truly known for his kindness, cheerfulness, and love for everyone he met. His warmth and compassion left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Irene, 8 daughters and 2 sons, 4 son-in-law’s and 1-daughter-in-law, 4 step-children, 20 grandchildren, and 2 siblings. He was preceded in death by his father Keith, his mother Gerry, his sister Robyn and granddaughter Payton.
