Steven Lewis

March 31, 1945 — August 4, 2016

Our dad, Steven Robert Lewis, the hardest working man who ever lived, went fly fishing in the sky the morning of August 4, 2016, another life robbed by cancer.
Born to Robert & Geneva Lewis, March 31st,1945. There are so many things to say about Steve, where to start, and where to end?
He spent the majority of his working life as an ASE certified master mechanic for Dave Strong Volkswagen. He would work all day and then come home and fix cars at night, to make ends meet.
His cracked and calloused hands showed the love he had In his heart.
After Strong’s Volkswagen, he worked for Jordan School district as head of driver’s education vehicles.  He retired July of 2015 at age seventy, got his first passport,- and then a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in August of 2015.
Steve rebuilt two Chevy pickup trucks from the “rust up,” a 1956 and a 1955.  He also refurbished the 1967 Volkswagen beetle we rode around everywhere in as kids.
The engines, the body work, buffing, painting, he did it all, and they are flawless.
He was also an excellent gardener. You never really had a tomato or cucumber unless you had one from Steve Lewis’ garden.
If you visited his house during garden season, you always got an offer to try some broccoli, or squash, or, “how about a piece of okra, you ever had okra?’”
Now, being Steve’s teenage kids, this was gardening, long before gardening was cool.
He loved fishing, camping, golfing, and old cars.  He built beautiful model cars and handmade, intricate ships that you would have to see to believe, and was an unbelievably skilled wood worker. He made frames, shadow boxes, coffee tables, cutting boards, chopping blocks,  a wooden kitchen for Kierstin as a kid, chairs for all three kids, rocking horses…the list goes on and on.
Our family camped in the East fork of the Blacks fork of the Bear River in the high Uintas for seventy-one years.  We fished, made haunted houses , played horseshoes, passed a huge orange bowl of popcorn around the fire (us kids stole sips of the adult drinks) ultimately, those were THE BEST TIMES EVER.
Something or someone made damn sure we were unable to go this year.
With the recent fires, maybe there are angels among us?
Steve married Claudeene Salisbury, August 26,1967, together, they had three children, Kierstin (Clarence) Tafoya , Bob Lewis, Dan Lewis, they provided us a great childhood, that will never be forgotten.
That marriage ran its course.
Steve later met Debbie Holt, they were partners for the last 14 years, and she never left his side.
He is preceded in death by his mother Geneva. Survived by his father, Robert Lewis, (who turns ninety-four the day after the service) his sister, Vicki Clough, his brother, Marty Lewis , all three of his children, and two cherished grandchildren, Ryleigh and Lilly Tafoya., and more special camp family and friends than we could ever mention.
There aren’t many men as good as Steve Lewis, he will never be replaced.  A piece of all of our hearts went with him when he left us.
We hope the fly fishing in the great unknown is awesome, and the fish are “good eatin.”
Thumbs up, Steve Lewis.
Salute! El primero pero no el ultimo
