Steven Hammer

May 19, 1943 — May 14, 2016

Steven Sevell Hammer
1943 –2016
FINALLY AT PEACE! After enduring years of pain and body deterioration, Steve earned his wings on May 14 surrounded by his loving family and is now happily soaring with many loved ones that passed on beforehand.
Steve was born May 19, 1943 in Salt Lake City to Golden S. and Bonita May Jardine Hammer. He attended Monroe Elementary, Evergreen Junior High, Olympus High School and Salt Lake Community College where he earned his Journeyman Electrician License.  He retired from the University of Utah after 40 years as an Electrician. He loved his trade and was always willing to help anyone who had electrical problems.  He could fix, repair or build most anything out of nothing but his family was his greatest treasure.  He will truly be missed here on Earth but his spirit will continue on.
Steve is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen, and four children. Mike Hammer (Lesley), Lori Hudson (Mike), Kayleen Johnson (Toney), and Hiedi Johnson (Ty), 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, LaRee Hoyt (Jody- deceased), Rozanne Ellis (Lynn- deceased), and Carol Campbell (Dave- deceased).  Also survived by Brother-in-law and friend Larry Mitchell (Shirley) and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who dearly loved him.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, great-grandson Wyatt Hudson, his brother Bill Hammer (Kathy-deceased), mother and father -in-law (Kenneth and LaVerne Mitchell), and brother and sister-in-law (Vernon and Connie Mitchell).
Steve’s greatest accomplishment was his family and their many successes in life. He will be remembered for his generosity, his sense of humor, and his infamous “one-liners”.
The family would like to thank Lone Peak Hospital, Draper Rehabilitation and Care Center (Lindsey and Meranda), and Tender Care Hospice for all of their loving care and support in Steve’s last days.
As per Steve’s request there will be no funeral. Rather, there will be a graveside service on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 12:00 noon, with a visitation prior to the service from 10:00-11:45 am at Memorial Mountain View, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.memorialutah.com
