Stephen LeGrand Peterson was born in Salina, Utah on Feb 7, 1934; he passed away in the loving home of his daughter on August 17, 2015. He graduated from Brigham Young University as well as studying art in San Francisco. While studying at BYU he met the love of his life, his “bride” as he would refer to her for the next 57 years, Gayle Christensen. He married Gayle June 11, 1958 in the Idaho Falls Temple and has returned to her loving embrace. He was an accomplished artist in watercolors, oils, tempera and sculpture.
They have four children: Annette of Sandy, UT; Miriam of Shelby, MT; Stephen of Chicago, IL and David who lived with his parents in Holladay. Stephen is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He served his country as a Marine in the Korean conflict. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served diligently in numerous positions with the Church, including as temple worker, service missionary and genealogy specialist. He adored his family, was an avid appreciator of all the arts, was an avid sports fan, loved a great joke, traveled extensively and could not get enough of his wife’s lemon meringue pie.
Many friends and family mourn his passing. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Olympus Stake Center, 2675 East 4430 South in Salt Lake City. A viewing with friends and family will be held on Friday at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church.
