Stephanie A. Holloway, dear wife, mother, daughter and friend, passed away suddenly but peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 22, 2025. Stephanie, known to all as “Steph” was born November 13, 1951 to Bonnie and Al Asay in Salt Lake City, UT.
She grew up in the Cottonwood Heights area sharing backyards with the love of her life, Terry Holloway. Terry loved to drive past her when she was walking with her friends, turning his car off before reaching them and coasting, only to start it back as he passed them, up knowing a loud backfire would follow, then laughing as they scattered. His antics and charm won her over and Steph and Terry married on May 12, 1970.
She was a strong military wife while she waited for Terry to return from Vietnam. They welcomed their first daughter, Shar, in May of 1974. Two more daughters, Cassie in April 1978, and Megan in November 1982, would complete their family. Steph taught her daughters to be strong, independent, fearless, and feisty, as she was. Each one of her girls had a special and individual connection with their mom that they will carry on with them.
All who had the pleasure of knowing Steph knew of her love and passion for the Buffalo Bills. She stood by them through thick and thin and we all held out hope that “this was the year” they would go to the Superbowl, but it was not to be. She did however get to travel to Buffalo, NY a couple of times to see her beloved Bills with the other fanatic Bills fan in the family, her daughter Shar. The most recent being on her birthday in November 2023, when sadly the Bills lost to her other daughter’s team, the Denver Broncos. Fate would have it that she found a Buffalo Bills bar only minutes from her home. Many a Sunday was spent there with Terry, her third daughter, Megan, and the Bills Mafia cheering the Bills to victory.
Football was only one of her numerous passions. Many knew of, and benefited from, her incredible talent with interior design. She had the privilege of staging several of the homes found in the annual Utah Parade of Homes event. Her other greatest talent was gardening. She could take a bare patch of dirt and turn it into a gorgeous carpet of colorful blooms. Her yard was always the most beautiful and serene place to be. Steph loved kayaking with her partner in crime, Terry. Her favorite spot was definitely Little Dell reservoir, but anywhere there was water, she was happy to be. She also loved and cherished all her friendships, from the bunco girls to her bowling buddies, to her beloved Wendover sidekick and trusty bestie, Toni, and so many others.
The greatest light of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always told her daughters, being a grandmother makes all the hardships of being a mom worth it. She was blessed with six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one on the way she did not get to meet. She loved being a part of their activities from sports to dance, to school events, and just watching them grow. She struggled not having all of them in the same state, but made sure to do her best to visit when she could and made sure each one knew how much she loved them. She was made to be a Grammy, and her spirit lives on in each one of them.
Finally, the love of her life, Terry. Together they went through war, built a home they would raise their three girls in, then another that they would retire in. Together they walked through life overcoming the trials and relishing the good times. Together they fought through and beat her breast cancer and took on this recent diagnosis with the same fierceness and strength. Although this was a battle they could not win, when the end came, they were together.
Steph loved her mom and she missed her every day since she passed in 2001. Thankfully, our Granny B. came to lead our Grammy home. I know that reunion was amazing and although we all are left to grieve, knowing Bonnie and so many other family members were there to welcome her home makes it a bit easier. Some say grief is love with no place to go, but it has a place to go, you just need to change the address. You always took care of everyone else and never stopped worrying about us all. Rest easy, mama, we will take it from here and we’ll keep the bubbly flowing. Love you mean it. Go Bills!
Steph is survived by her husband and lifetime best friend, Terry, her three daughters Sharlee (Dee), Cassie (Chad), and Megan (Bobby). Her six grandchildren, Macy (Gabe), Ethan, McKenna, Ava, Addison, and Beckham. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Elly, Aston, and Nolan. She also has one great grandchild on the way. She is Preceded in death by her beautiful mom, Bonnie and father Al, her favorite Aunt Jeanne, and many other family and a few great friends.
Per her wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held in her honor the first day of summer, June 21, 2025. We’ll make sure to share the details with our wonderful family and friends.
