Stanley L. Draney

March 7, 1930 — May 9, 2018

Stan passed away due to complications of Diabetes and Congestive Heart Failure. He was born March 7,1930 in Deseret Lake, Utah. Born to Stanley H. and Elvira F. Ewell Draney. He was a Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and friend. He was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings Marion, Frances and Larry. He graduated from Murray High School in 1948 and later attended LDS Business College for two years. He married Wanda Mattson in 1949 which ended in a divorce. Later he married Carol D. Sherriff on Sept 21, 1956 in Kearns, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1977.
Stan served as a supply sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired mail carrier for the US Postal Service and worked as a general clerk for the Union Pacific Railroad Company. He was a Salt Lake County rec basketball official, coach, and president of the Sandy Boys Little League from 1967-1973. He also was the president of a bowling league “No Puff n Stuff” in which he greatly enjoyed participating. He was a crossing guard for eighteen years for the Salt Lake County Sheriffs Office and Midvale City Police Department as well as a member of the American Legion Post 77 of Sandy.
He was an active High Priest of the Sandy Fair Oaks LDS Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There he served in many ward and stake callings. He served a five-year mission to the Sandy, Utah Convalescent Branch. He was a high priest group leader, assistant group leader, as well as a stake athletic director for the Mt. Jordan Stake. He enjoyed the many family reunions spent at Palisades State Park in Sterling, Utah. He loved hunting and fishing and occasional bowling. He loved all sports and a great affinity for the New York Yankees. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting activities. He is survived by his sons and daughters: S. Bruce, Dee R. (Debbie), Kelly S. (Linda), Kyle B., Susan V. (Scott), and Trudie L. (Trent). He also has 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one more on the way.
The viewing will be held Monday, May 14 at Mountain View Memorial Estates 3115 E 7800 S. from 6-8 PM, as well as one hour before funeral services. Funeral services to be held Tuesday, May 15 at the Sandy LDS ward house, 586 E 8400 S, at 11 AM. Burial will occur at the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery at 3115 E 7800 S.
