Stanford Oliver Price
June 3, 1917 ~ December 16, 2013
Stan is the son of Oliver Newton Price and Anna Alida Burkman. He was born in Bozeman, Montana.
He married his beloved companion, Iva Balmforth, on February 27, 1937. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple on their 11th anniversary. They celebrated their 74 years together in 2011.
Stan and Iva are the parents of six children: Barbara (Ole) Jensen, Jacquelyn (John) Guy, Marjorie (Brent) Zollinger, Noel (June), Dan (Susan) and Shannon. They have 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Stan was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Stan enjoyed many callings, especially being the Webelos Den leader. He served as Ward Clerk for many years in Bellflower and Lakewood, California. At age 80, Stan and Iva served a couples mission to Columbus, Ohio from 1997 to 1998. After returning home, they served as ordinance workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple. Stan has lived the gospel and kept his testimony strong.
Stan enjoyed many activities, including running, square dancing, golfing, gardening, leather working, rock hounding and especially photography. He could fix anything. He had a love, understanding, appreciation and enthusiasm for nature. He knew the names of the birds and plants. He especially liked to watch the birds that came to eat at his bird feeders. His children all have a special love for nature that came from him. He was curious about the world around him and loved to learn about it.
For the first few years of their life together, Stan and Iva made their home in Los Angeles, California. They bought their first home in Bellflower (Lakewood), California in 1943, Upland, California, in 1963, Grand Junction, Colorado in 1966 and Bountiful, Utah in 1968.
He supported Iva in all that she did; he was her number one fan. He was also the cheerleader for his children. He had a very profound and unconditional love for each member of his family. All who met him felt his love and the joy he found in everyday things.
Stan graduated from Idaho Falls High School. All through his childhood he loved working for his Uncle Russell Burkman on his farm near Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was even a shepherd for one glorious summer! He studied electronics at the Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, California. He took business law and technical math classes. He took every class offered in metals at the local college in California: Metallographic, Metallurgy, Heat Treating Metals, and Forming of Steel. This helped him greatly in his work as a salesman, selling steel products and hardware. He loved his territories in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
With his delightful sense of humor and humorous accounts of his life, Stan has always been a joy to know. His children have always felt blessed to have him for “Dad.”
Waiting to greet Stan is his loving wife Iva, his son, Noel, his parents, a sister, a brother, many other family members and friends. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2014.
