Stacey Kunz

October 22, 1958 — July 20, 2021

Stacey Jo Kunz passed away on Tuesday, July 20th, 2021 at 62 years young in Draper, UT. She was born in Colorado Springs, CO on October 22, 1958 to Robert M & Constance M Cox.
Mom was a loud, hard headed, spitfire woman and full of life and fun.  She was far from perfect and battled with addiction her entire adult life, but we still had a lot of amazing times with her. She loved her friends and family more than anything in this world, she was the definition of a social butterfly. Mom was one of five kids. She had two older sisters and two brothers, one older and one younger. Their relationships were not always strong, but she loved them very much. She took in her younger brother Chris when he was young, before he joined the Navy. She absolutely adored her little brother and was so proud of who he had become.
She coached our softball team when we first started playing softball, we were about 12 and 10. She was a great and fun coach that everyone loved to be around. She had the loudest whistle. She would whistle to call us home, the entire neighborhood knew what that whistle meant. She always knew how to embarrass us: being loud, or taking us to the mall in her spandex shorts and crop tops.
Mom had a love for Harley Davidsons. She was a biker chick. She loved riding “bitch”; if you knew her, you knew she also had a “sailor’s” mouth. She would say she needed an attitude adjustment and would go out on long rides.
One thing people probably didn’t know about her is that she loved animals. She had all kinds of animals: dogs, cats, hamsters, finches, bunnies, guinea pigs, and even a rat (yuck!). But her  favorite was a cockatiel named Smokey. He was one of a kind, and best friends with our dalmatian Aqua. Mom would take Smokey with her to the grocery store all the time. He would just sit on her shoulder along for the ride, she loved that bird.
She also had an amazing green thumb. From the time we were growing up to the past few years mom had plants everywhere. Even more so these past several years living in assisted living she was able to find joy in creating her own little oasis that was the envy of the whole facility. We jokingly called her room the greenhouse.
Mom’s most rewarding job she had was as a Child Abuse counselor. This job tore her up but gave her so much joy to help the children. She went to college to be a nurse, like her mom, but never liked the nurse/doctor relationship so this was her way to fulfill that passion she had to help others.
Mom’s greatest love was her 5 grandsons. Mom absolutely loved her grandsons. She was one of a kind and we all loved her unconditionally.
We are sad that our mom is gone but are happy to know that she is at peace and no longer in pain. While mom is not here in the flesh, we know that she is here in spirit. Our mom taught us so much and made us the women we are today. We know that her kind heart and spirit had the same impact on many of you, and that mom’s spirit lives on in all of us. Mom, we love you and will miss you always.
She is survived by her daughters, Bridgett (Annette), and Candice, her grandsons, Vince, Jaylan, Ty, Isaac, and Nikolas. She is also survived by her brother, sister, and her nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Chris, and sister Cass.
We would like to thank everyone for their love and support they have shown to us over the past few days. Thank you for reaching out to pay your respects to mom. Thank you for your friendship and love that you gave her over the years. We would also like to give a special heartfelt thank you to all those involved in her care over the last 6 years. She loved you all and we all appreciate everything that you did for her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 10:00am-11:00am at Murray Park; 495 E 5300 S next to Pavilion 1 at the picnic tables.
