Sonia Monteiro Ingersoll, beloved mother and wife, passed away March 6, 2014 surrounded by family and friends in Murray, Utah. Sonia was born February 11, 1949 in Campinas, Brazil to Carmelo Monteiro and Cinira Aroz. She married Gary Dexter Ingersoll on November 14, 1975.
Sonia came to Utah on an International Scholarship at the age of 19 all by herself to the University of Utah. Sonia also did volunteer work for the Red Cross at the VA Hospital. Sonia graduated Cum Laude from the University of Utah with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. She also received an Associate Degree in Marketing from LDS Business College. Sonia started her own wholesale business, which she ran successfully for 35 years. Once an avid potter and oil painter, Sonia continued to express her creativity through gardening and jewelry making. She loved to volunteer; especially with the International Peace Garden, where she was responsible for developing and maintaining the Brazilian section of the garden.
One of Sonia’s greatest passions was spending time with family and friends, as she loved to serve those she cared so much about.
She is survived by her husband Gary; children Synira and Andrew, granddaughter, Summer and stepson James. She was preceded in death by her parents Carmelo & Cinira Monteiro.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Butler 11th Ward, 1845 East 7200 South. Friends and family may call Sunday, March 16, 2015 at the Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Drive from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church.
