Siosaia “Latu” Tali Oto’Ota Vimahi

Siosaia “Latu” Tali Oto’ota Vimahi, age 68, passed away on December 18, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on November 13, 1952 in Fangaleounga, Ha’apai, Tonga to Tevita ‘Oto’ota Vimahi of Pangai, Ha’apai and Sanisaite Talivakaola of Fangaleounga, Ha’apai.
Latu attended school at GPS Kaleli in Fotua, Ha’apai, and LDS Middle school in Pangai, Ha’apai. He left Ha’apai in 1968 to attend Liahona High School in Tongatapu. He graduated from Liahona High School in 1971, before working for the Tongan Agriculture.
Before moving to the United States, he had one daughter, Sanisaite. He moved to the United States in 1980. He worked for many years at Hydroflame as a machine operator. Latu met and married JoAnne Spencer in 1981. They had two children, Henry and Alisi. They later divorced. He then married Sesilili Lui, and had one daughter, Teresa. Sesilili passed away in 2002 from cancer. He then married Vika Lomano in 2005.
Latu had many friends who were family to him. He enjoyed spending time with them at the kalapu drinking kava, telling stories, and singing together. Many knew him as Vunivalu. Latu always supported his family and never wanted people to worry about what he needed. He made sure his family had what they needed before himself. Latu loved his grandchildren dearly and never missed a chance to talk about them. He made sure to support his grandson at all his football games. His grandson was his pride and joy. Latu was known for having a big heart and loved all of his family unconditionally.
Latu is survived by his wife Vika Lomano Vimahi; children: Sanisaite Westall, Henry Vimahi (Michelle), Alisi Vimahi, Teresa Vimahi; grandchildren: Teri Lynn Westall, Issac Henry Vimahi, Kaylee Jo Vimahi, and Alaya Vimahi; siblings: Feaomoeata Talivakaola (Mele), Ofa Fatai Fou (Sione), Tone Fatai ( Norah), Burlingame Vimahi Moimoi (Tavana) and Ilaisaane Faatinga Vimahi Lutui (Vaikalafi).
Latu is preceded in death by his parents Tevita ‘Oto’ota and Sanisaite Talivakaola; brothers: Feleave Vimahi, Viliami Fatai, Kolianita Fatai Talivakaola; sister: Manusiu Fatai and granddaughter Mikaela Sio ‘Ki Langi Fakahafua.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29th, 2020 at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan. The viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The funeral services will be from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm with the burial following.
Due to Covid-19, we ask that if you are feeling sick or have been around anyone that is sick to please stay home for the safety of everyone attending. Masks are required and there will be restrictions that will be followed. The viewing and burial services will be live-streamed for those that are unable to attend.
The family would like to thank everyone who has shown their support during this time of mourning.
 
Following Salt Lake County’s mandate on facial coverings, face masks are required at all public gatherings. Social distancing will be enforced. For those unable to attend the services, Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries are offering a live streaming of the funeral service on Zoom.
