Sione Petelo Vaopako Tuiono

Sione Petelo Vaopako Tuiono, age 78, passed away surrounded by his family on October 8, 2019 in Glendale, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on November 16, 1940 to Aisake and Moala (Vaopako) Tuiono in Tatakamotonga, Tonga. He married Mele Minoneti Loamanu on June 9, 1964.
Sione and his wife, Mele, came into the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ at the young ages of 73 and 68. They were sealed in the Holy Temple in July of 2014. Through his example, he taught the importance of hard work and to always be in the service of others. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mele Minoneti, and their children Ula (Kellie), Kaveinga (Hopate), Elisa (Maafu), Mele (Isi), Ilaisaane (Matt),Fesi Toloa (Nesi), Fatai (Sela), and Tulisa (Saia), his 47 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren; his brothers Tevita, Kite and Tomasi.
Sione is preceded in death by his parents Aisake and Moala, his son Toloa Lahi and grandsons Petelo, Jersey, Sione, and Maile.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment to follow at the same location.
