Simione Taufalele

June 9, 1939 — January 14, 2020

Simione Taufalele passed away on January 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family in Taylorsville, Utah, at the age of 80. Simione was born on June 9, 1939 in Taanea – Vavau, Tonga to loving parents Aisea Taufalele (Haalaufuli/Niua) and Amelia Fasi Fungalei (Houma/Koulo). He was the youngest of 6 children.
Simione married Ma’amaloa Maumau (Foui) on July 10, 1963 in Ta’anea. They’ve eventually settled in Te’ekiu, Tonga to be by his sister and help her raise her children. Later, Simione migrated to Hawaii a few times to work, support and send for his family. In 1992, he moved his family from Hawaii to Utah, and he remained behind to work till he retired in 2000.
Simione was a very talented, passionate mason worker; he took pride in what he did and it shows in his work. He mastered every work he did and instilled the meaning of dedication, hard work, self-reliance, perseverance and all attributes of a hard worker in each of his children. Simione inspired his children to be independent and encouraged them to always be prepared and not rely or be a burden to anyone. He was employed by Ono Construction -retired in 2000, and was a proud member of the Hawaii Mason Union -BAC Local 1.
Simione enjoyed gardening and working around his house. Each year, he would plant different vegetation and would share his crops with his families, friends and neighbors. He was filled with joy when he shared his hard work with everyone.
Simione had a great sense of humor and always left a smile with everyone he came in contact with. He enjoyed reminiscing about his life in Tonga, especially his village of Ta’anea.
Simione loved his wife, children, grand-children and great-grand-children, brothers, nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for his sisters; Pelenaise Kava Eseta Valu, Akanesi Waterlily Taufalele, Laupola Taufalele and their children.
He is survived by his wife Ma’amaloa, six children Fasi (Luahea) Houma, Tavana (Teresa), Kalolaine (Sione Matealona) Vi, Henele Fehoko (Crystal), Eseta (Jerry) Tevaga, and Tualau. 23 Grand-children and 11 Great Grand-children. Last surviving sibling: sister Pelenaise Kava Eseta Valu.
