Signe Jacobsen

April 28, 1930 — August 15, 2020

Signe Georgia Smith Thomson Jacobsen
April 28, 1930 – August 15, 2020
Signe, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family and stepfamily, passed away at home in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at the age of 90. She was greatly loved and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Signe was born on April 28, 1930 to Tex and Kitty Smith in Krugersdorp, South Africa and was the youngest of 3 children.
A devoted wife to her first husband, James Thomson (Big Jim), and her second husband, Alan Jacobsen, she was also a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to her family and stepfamily. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving a mission in Cape Town South Africa as a young woman in her 20s, and another with her 2nd husband at the Humanitarian Center in Salt Lake City.
She loved people, was welcoming and always opened her home to anyone in need. Her love of music and her beautiful Lyric-Soprano voice instilled a passion for developing the musical talents of her young children. She was an accomplished CPA, singer, poet, creative cook, dancer, talented dress-designer and producer of an innovative personal pattern-making system that she developed from her years of experience in the Fashion Industry. She authored “The Perfect Fit” manuals from which she taught at SLCC for 13 years as part of the Fashion Design Program.
Signe retired from teaching in December 2018 at the age of 88 due to health issues and the desire to complete the last revision of her manual. Thereafter, her health began to steadily decline. It was agreed that she would be moved to Las Vegas to live with her stepfamily where she was lovingly cared for until she went home to her Heavenly Father.
A special thanks to the caregivers from Encompass Health who so lovingly made her as comfortable as possible while she was in their care.
Signe is survived by her children, Heather-Kay Kahn (Robert), Wally Thomson (Denise), Angus Thomson (Leanne), Isabella Thomson (Scott Bramwell), her 15 Grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and niece Harmony; stepdaughter Shauna Marx (Steve), stepdaughters-in-law Tauna (Mark), Hazel (Howard 2nd wife) and Lori (Howard 1st wife), her 12 step-grandchildren, 28 and 7/9 step-great grandchildren and 2 step-great great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Dwan Young (Tom).
She was preceded in death by both husbands, James Thomson and Alan Jacobsen, parents Kitty and Tex Smith, brother Waldron Smith, sister Joy and niece Joyette Botha, grandson Kaleb Thomson Saloom, stepsons Mark and Howard Jacobsen.
