Shirrell Winget Hughes, our beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend passed away on January 8, 2014. She was 77 years old. She was born September 4, 1936, in Logan, Utah, to Newell and Veta Winget, the third of four children. She moved to Salt Lake City and married Clifford D. Hughes June 1, 1955. He preceded her in death January 22, 1991. She was also preceded by her parents, a brother, R. N. Winget, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
Shirrell was a hard working, well respected business woman. She co-founded Interwest Transfer in 1972 with her husband, and later assumed the chief executive position. She continued as an officer, working daily until her death. She also served on the Board of Directors of First Utah Bank for many years, as well as serving in her LDS church wards in Junior Sunday School and Relief Society callings.
She is survived by her children Richard Hughes (Liz) in Ohio, Kelly Hunsaker (Hy) in Virginia and Kurtis Hughes (Susan) in Salt Lake City as well as two sisters Pauline Christiansen (Dale) and Pat Jones (Ken) of Salt Lake City, 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Shirrell was so proud of her children and was their best advocate and support. She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they will miss her example and her passion for life. She loved to travel and has made many happy memories with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13, at the Granite Ridge LDS Ward at 9575 South 3100 East at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends will be received one hour prior to services.
