Shirley “Shirl” Dee Ballard, 78, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born February 11, 1937 in Holladay, Utah to Norman William Ballard and Leah Olive Johnson Ballard. He married Shirley Jean Acocks on October 7, 1955.
Shirl was quite the athlete in his younger days, playing football and other sports in high school, in his later years you could find Shirl sitting in his famous chair and watching sports, including the Utah Jazz. He served in the Utah National Guard and was honorably discharged. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, working in the yard and maintaining his garden.
He is survived by his 6 children, their spouses, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, 2 brothers and a grandson.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, April 16, at the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services.
