Shirley Ottesen

February 1, 1931 — May 26, 2017

Our dear, sweet grandmother, mother, sister and friend, Shirley Dean Langdorf Ottesen, passed away Friday, 26 May 2017 with her daughters at her side. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on 1 February 1931 to Clarence Andrew Langendorf and Della Rae Dean. She married Elmo E. Ottesen on 9 February 1951. He passed away 5 May 2011 in Southern Utah where they had been living. Shirley has been living independently at Millcreek/Pacifica in Salt Lake City and was very involved in the community there. “She lived a long and fruitful life. During her life she demonstrated great love and compassion to many, especially to her children, having two sons and her husband precede her in death. If one paid any attention at all you could learn many valuable life lessons from Elmo and Shirley, especially about patience and how to love someone. They were both great role models. Shirley showed great strength during her life, enduring many family and personal tragedies and she has earned great respect and admiration from those who knew her. I was fortunate enough to be one of those people. Rest easy Shirley, the world is a bit sadder today, but happy to have known you.”(Thank you Ron Crockett for this beautiful tribute to our mom). She is preceded in death by her husband Elmo Earl Ottesen, sons Reed Earnest and Dean Andrew, grandson Arlo Henderson, and great-grandson Chance Nieser. She has 2 daughters Linda Ottesen and Shar Henderson, and son-in-law Kim Henderson. She has 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and recently 1 great-great-grandchild. We love you so much and will miss you dearly, but we know you are always with us. Graveside services will be held Saturday 3 June 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery.
Thank you to her friends at Pacifica. She was very happy (and busy) there. Everyone was so friendly and kind. We will miss you too!
