Shirley LaPreal (Guiver) Openshaw December 13,1925 - February 19, 2025

Shirley Lapreal (Guiver) Openshaw, 99, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 19, 2025 in Logan, Utah. She was born on December 13, 1925 to Gordon T. Guiver and May LaPreal Guiver (King). She was the oldest sibling of three. Shirley married R. Creed Openshaw on March 5,1977, they were married for 36 years, until he passed away in 2013.

Shirley enjoyed arts and crafts, and spent much of her time making personalized birthday cards for family, friends, and church members. She would often send letters with stories of her childhood to the grandkids. Shirley enjoyed taking care of her home, she spent many hours gardening in her yard, up until she moved to Logan at the age of 95. She was very active and enjoyed playing yard games with her adult grandkids and great grandkids. Every time family would visit her, she would make her famous brown rice and order KFC; it was a tradition, it’s not a party without Gigi’s brown rice!

In her younger years, Shirley enjoyed singing and dancing. She was a member of the women's singing group called the “Harmonines”. She performed for civic clubs, schools, hospitals, retirement homes. She had many costumes and enjoyed dressing up for events. She was a very creative person, if she could reuse something, or repurpose something, she did. She rarely threw anything away that could have a purpose.

Shirley helped build a chapel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She spent a lot of her time volunteering. She designed theater sets and built backgrounds for plays for her church.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Howard Taylor, grandchildren Drew (Mandy) Taylor, Audry Taylor, Derek (Natalie) DeLong, Chad (Kristin) Taylor, Clarke Taylor, and Alex Taylor.

Her great-grandchildren, Kyle, Quinn, Danika, Blythe, and Rowan Taylor; Nicholas and Gabriella DeLong; Bailey, Charlee, and Daylen Taylor.

She is preceded in death by her husband, R. Creed Openshaw, daughters Sherry Taylor and Jsanu Openshaw, and her parents Gordon and May LaPreal Guiver.
