Shirley Louis Robertson Shay
October 8, 1925 — November 4, 2017
Shirley Louis Robertson Shay passed November 4, 2017, in the loving patient care of her husband Douglas Shay. Born October 8, 1925, to James Spence Robertson and Emily Louise Covington.
Shirley was a perfectionist, always elegant in appearance and perfectly dressed. She was accomplished in business as an executive secretary and deputy insurance examiner. She contributed her business skills as a Board Member of public employee and women’s business organizations and chaired a Utah senatorial race. She loved reading and her cabin, boating and waterskiing. Shirley loved music and conducted choirs for many years starting in her youth. She was known for her Easter cantata performances. Music never dragged with Shirley conducting. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her twin boys James and John with much attention and sacrifice.
She married Douglas Shay and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. She enjoyed twenty-five wonderful years with Doug. Shirley and Doug served an LDS mission together in Toronto, CA. Shirley encouraged Doug’s model building hobbies and they loved traveling and going to the air races. Doug took care of Shirley with great tenderness and love. His love was a great comfort to Shirley who endured many trials and health pains. She survived much longer than expected because she did not want to leave Doug without her.
Shirley is survived by her husband Douglas J Shay, her twin boys James and John, ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and Doug’s family, children and grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She loved and cherished her Fisher family and many close lifetime friends. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to plays and musical events and supported them in their sports and graduations. Her example of perfectionism will remain with all her family.
Shirley’s funeral will be held November 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 at Crescent South Stake 251 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT.
