Shirley Larae Hand Timothy

October 11, 1932 — May 15, 2016

Shirley LaRae Hand Timothy, Born October 11, 1932, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family May 15, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born to Emerson Stewart and Margret Irene Nowell Hand in Salt Lake City, Ut.
Shirley grew up living in Little Cottonwood Canyon where she enjoyed climbing on rocks, chasing lizards and snow skiing. Shirley was the oldest of four girls and after the death of her mother when she was 11 years old, Shirley became a surrogate mother until her father remarried several years later.  After her father remarried Shirley welcomed three more sisters. She was proud to be the oldest of what has always been called “The Seven Sisters.”
Shirley attended Jordan High School where she met the love of her life and eternal companion Kendell Timothy. Shirley and Kendell were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple February 1, 1951. This past February they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Shortly after Shirley and Kendell were married, they established their home in Sandy Utah where they still live. Living between Shirley’s and Kendell’s parents, they spent many hours with their families.
Shirley was a devoted and loving wife to Kendell and wonderful mother to Lynn Emerson,     Lori (Pehrson), and Tracy Kendell Timothy. Shirley work tirelessly to see both of her sons serve LDS missions, her daughter graduate from college, and to see all three of her children married in the temple. Shirley and Kendell have 16 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Family was the center of her life and she spent many hours at her sewing machine making beautiful dresses for her granddaughters and quilts for her children and grandchildren. Every conversation turned (sooner than later) to her children and grandchildren. Her love and devotion to her family was endless.
Shirley served in many callings in the church from Relief Society President to most recently, meeting house librarian. Shirley and Kendell served a full time LDS mission in Raleigh North Carolina, where they traveled the mission with their mission president, as well as coordinating missionary apartments and overseeing the mission fleet of vehicles. After their missionary service they spent many years enjoying the warmth of the St. George Utah winters where they enjoyed golf, playing cards with friends and many other activities.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Emerson, Margaret, and stepmother Geneve as well as two grandsons Jared Pehrson and Jeremy Timothy. Survived by her husband Kendell, children, Lynn (Katherine) Timothy, Lori (Dean) Pehrson, Tracy (Dana) Timothy, six sisters; Susie, Karen, Margaret, Linda, Lyle, Christine, her grand and great-grandchildren, and many other loved ones and friends.
