Shirley Jean Degles

May 2, 1924 — June 20, 2019

Mrs. Shirley Jean Degles “95” passed away at her home in Holladay, Utah Thursday night June 20, 2019. Born on May 2, 1924 at Evanston, Wyoming, her parents Ronald A. and Gladys M. Judd.
Shirley always lived life on her own terms, and was one of the strongest, loving and most caring of women. Shirley was proud of her 40 years of service as a Registered Nurse, including work with returning Gl’s and later, challenging positions in Cardiology and Intensive Care, working with the likes of many accomplished care providers, including Dr. Robert Jarvik.
Shirley married Nick Leonis in 1944, and they had two children, Richard Scott (Rick) and Robyn Lynn. Shirley and Nick divorced, and she later married the love of her life, George Degles. Shirley and George were married for over 30 years before his untimely passing. They traveled the world together and skied every season up until they reached their late Bo’s. George and Shirley could also be found on the golf course or camping and fishing. Shirley took up painting after retiring and George framed and matted her artwork.
Shirley was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Ray, her parents, Ronald and Gladys Judd, husband Nick Leonis and George Degles, and her sister, Joyce (Edward) Jones.
Shirley is survived by her children, Rick (Donna) Leonis and Robyn Edwards, her grandchildren Tannen (Timothy) Graham, Stacey (Jaron) Payzant, and Vincent (Jessica) Leonis, and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Sky) Earl – Merhish, Keaton Earl-Merhish, Kabe Merhish, Dane Merhish, Taitlynn Colosimo, Alex Leonis, Tate Leonis, Theodore Graham, Ian Graham, and Julia Graham. Shirley was expecting her first great-great-grandchild (Nicholas and Sky) at the time of her passing.
In lieu of funeral services, under strict instructions from Shirley, a joyful Celebration of Life will be held on July 14, 2019, at 1:00 PM at the Clubhouse at Woodbridge Condominiums, 1715 East Woodbridge Dr. (4850 South) Salt Lake City, Utah 84117.
