Shirley Catherine Woodmansee Nielsen

December 3, 1935 — March 30, 2019

Shirley Catherine Woodmansee Nielsen was born on December 3rd, 1935 to Benjamin Lewis Woodmansee and Annie Bertha Eugster Woodmansee at 1:12am in the Salt Lake General Hospital.

She was the 4th of 6 children and was living at 973 West 200 South. The family later moved to 338 East 700 South. She loved her Dad, Mom and siblings and always did what she could for them. Each one of them have a special place in her heart with wonderful memories shared.
Shirley loved to dance and sing. She belonged to a U of U dance group and was invited to travel with the company. She never told her parents about the invite because they grew up in humble circumstances and knew if she did they would find a way to send her. This would have been a real hardship on her family.
Shirley was a wonderful daughter and wanted to help the family. She left high school early to get a job. She worked at Wagner Bags and waitress in California with her cousin Barbara.
It is a funny story how Shirley met Ted. Ted lived up the Street from Shirley. He would watch her walk up and down the street. He loved her muscular dance thighs. They had a mutual friend-Joy. Once Ted moved to 8th south, Joy took Shirley to see” Pop and the boys” play their steel guitars. This is the first time they met.
After a short courtship, Ted and Shirley became engaged. Their engagement lasted a year while Ted prepared himself for the Temple. They were married on the 7th day of September 1956 for Time and All Eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Shirley and Ted moved into their current home where they lived their whole married life. They raised 5 awesome children. First came Theodore Jr, then Brent Benjamin, Brenda Lee, Dean David and Robin Lucybeth. She was always so proud of her children. She never failed to tell them so and she loved them.
Shirley worked with the city council, as a lunch lady with the school district and as a telephone operator at the Phone company. She retired from US West communications after over 20 years of service. Shirley taught her children to work hard and save for a raining day.
Shirley loved the Lord with all her heart. She had a strong testimony of the Restored Gospel. She served in many capacities including, primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, nursery leader, relief society teacher and pianist. She later served as a temple worker at the S.L. Temple as a prayer roll operator.
Shirley was loved by everyone she met. She had a sweet, loving spirit. You were drawn to her. You wanted to be in her presence wherever she was. She loved everyone and gave out compliments like candy. You always left her feeling loved and hopeful.
Shirley enjoy spending time on her land in the Uinta mountains, Family reunions, road trips, game nights with family & friends and Friday nights. Why Friday nights? Almost without fail, Shirley, Ted and Robin would go to dinner and a movie and would be upset if she missed it. P.S. She loved to drink Tab and couldn’t go anywhere without her red lippy tippy (lipstick).
Shirley returned home to her Heavenly Father on Saturday March 30th, 2019 after a long battle with Colon Cancer. She was in her home surrounded by her husband of 62 years and loving family who will dearly miss her.
She is survived by her husband Theodore Sr., Children; Ted Jr. (Lynnette), Brent (Terri), Brenda (Tom), Dean and Robin, and Benjamin (dog), 2 Brothers, 13 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren.
