Shirley Benson

Shirley Jean McOmie Benson was called home to her Heavenly Father on August 24, 2017 at the age of 89 in West Valley City, Utah in her home in the company of her 3 children. Shirley was born on March 19, 1928 in Murray, Utah and married Boyd L. Benson on April 26, 1947, later solemnized in the LDS temple.
 
Shirley loved the Uinta Mountains. She and her husband Boyd built a cabin near the North Fork of the Duchesne River and spent countless days fishing and teaching their children to love those same mountains. Many hilarious games of cards were played around the kitchen table with their three children. She loved traveling with her sisters in their RV’s. She also visited Hawaii, Dominican Republic, St. John and St. Thomas. She loved making her Christmas sleighs and giving them to those she loved. She enjoyed coloring, jigsaw puzzles and visiting with her friends and neighbors most of all.
 
Survived by her three children, Lawrence (Larry} B. Benson, Bonnie (Ken) Gates, Sheila (Ken) Young, 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
 
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters.
 
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Hunter Central Stake Center, 3930 South 6000 West, West Valley City, Utah. Viewing at 11:00 AM, services at 1:00 PM. Interment following services at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road West Jordan, Utah.
 
Special thanks to First Choice Hospice and all their wonderful nurses, aids, counselors and chaplain. Thank you to her neighbors and friends for all the love you showed our mom all the years she lived here especially during her last 18 months.
