It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirlene Payne Hunter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, who departed this life on December 13, 2024.
Mom was a kind and compassionate soul whose warmth and tenderness touched the lives of all who knew her. Mom was born on September 25th, 1929. She was born in her grandmothers home in Fillmore Utah to her parents James Morris Payne & Erma May Utley. Growing up in Flowell Utah, she was accustom to a simple upbringing where there was no running water nor electricity. On March 22nd, 1945, Mom married her husband of 54 years, Marvin Boyd Hunter, and commenced to build a family of their own. Mom’s last days were filled with visits from many family members before her sudden passing December 13th at the amazing age of 95.
Mom’s greatest love and accomplishments in her life were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She thrilled with listening to the stories and adventures in their lives.
She loved her sister Connie Bond so very much and really treasured all the time they got to spend together.
Mom had a love of sports which stemmed from when she was young and pitched for her ladies softball team in Holden. If anyone started a conversation with her about sports it would always bring a glow to her face and twinkle in her eyes. Her competitive nature continued from the field to the kitchen table where many a card game, domino game or even a blood pressure competition was an event in which she was proud to always try to win.
Mom would attend all events she could that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated in. It didn’t matter where or when, she would do her best to attend, even as it became more difficult for her to get around.
Mom was a die hard Utah Jazz fan. When a game would begin, she’d be making several phone calls to family members to let them know the Jazz were playing and would also make sure to provide the TV channel so others could tune in for the game.
Mom and Dad were members of the local Eagles Club and faithfully would go dancing there every Saturday night. Besides the dancing, they associated with many long time friends and cultured fond relationships with lasting memories. In addition to the friendships being built at the Eagles Club many more close relations were developed with folks from across the United States and Canada in a senior living ‘Snow-Bird’ community in Mesa Arizona.
Mom is survived by her children Marlene(Bruce) Silcox, Chris(Linda) Hunter, Mindy(Kevin) Smith. Her treasured grandchildren Reggie(Kristin), Blake(Laura), Melinda(Victor), Sarah(Dave), Chassee(Denry), Cienna(Derek), Chalyse(Derrick), Shaunie(Gil), Rylee(Kerry), Cole(Erin). Her cherished great-grandchildren Tanner, Cash, Hank, Jax, Sencerity, Krue, Tony, Declan, Walker, Sawyer, Reagan, Ryan. Her Sister Connie Bond and sister-in-law Kathy Payne as well as many other nieces and nephews.
Mom is preceded in death by her husband Marvin Hunter, son Steve Hunter, parents James & Erma Payne, brothers Jack, Bud & Jim Payne.
Mom will be remembered for her unwavering love, her vibrant spirit, and the legacy of kindness that she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honor of Shirlee’s life and her favorite color, the family invites those attending her service to wear blue. Casual attire is preferred as Shirlee cherished simplicity and comfort, reflecting her humble and down-to-earth nature.
In lieu of flowers, we invite the family to join us for a gathering lunch at Jim’s family restaurant after the graveside.
