Shiree Smith Christiansen

November 7, 1943 — September 10, 2020

Shiree passed away peacefully in her bed surrounded by her loving family, due to pancreatic cancer.
Shiree was born and raised in Holladay, Utah. She spent her youth riding horses with friends and club participation in the Olympus Mounties and the High Riders. At the age of 13, she won a saddle awarded by the Mounties. Her experiences with horses and friends were at the center of her formative years. The falls, scrapes, close calls, tangled hoofs and boots, bumps and bruises, were as valuable and as cherished as the achievements in barrel racing, horse shows, western riding, and rodeo.
Shiree was a uniquely talented artist. Her abilities crossed many mediums including drawing, oil painting, watercolors, charcoal, sculpting, leather work, and more.
While attending the University of Utah, Shiree was Personal Secretary to world famous sculptor, Avard Fairbanks. Under his mentorship, she enjoyed the opportunity to learn and further hone her skills as a sculptor. She worked on various projects with him, including the BYU Cougar.
Shiree married Renn June 21, 1967 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children and seven grandchildren. Throughout their married life, Renn and Shiree bred, showed and raced Quarter Horses, as well as bred, trained, showed and trialed Australian Shepherds. Shiree bought her first Aussie from Terry Martin, and together they created the very first Australian Shepherd Club of Utah. Renn and Shiree shared many interests and relished the time spent together as they pursued their extensive projects and activities.
Shiree made lasting friendships with people from all walks of life. She was always generous with her support and knowledge. She enjoyed passing her life experiences onto others and celebrated their successes. She quietly served and left a lasting impact on the lives of the many she touched.
Shiree loved her friends. Some were family, some were mentors, and some were great teachers.
Survived by husband Renn, children Kirsten, Rolf (Bonnie), Britt, and Sonja Wicks, brothers Dee Smith (Marj) and Shane Smith (Holly), grandchildren Rolf’s children Mikayla Barnard (Jared), Maren, Hannah, Renn V., and Andrew Sonja’s children Tessa, and Cortland.
Proceeded by parents Elden and Marion Smith, brothers Craig Smith and Cortland Smith.
