Shigeo “John” Kikuchi

May 30, 1925 — June 14, 2014

Shigeo John Kikuchi devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and dedicated friend died on Saturday, June 14, 2014. He was born to Unzo and Hisa Kikuchi in Hiawatha, Utah on May 30, 1925. After working on a family farm in Kaysville during his youth, he graduated from Davis High School. Inducted into the Army in 1945, John was stationed in Alabama, and then married Beverly Nakamoto in New York City in 1946. Upon his discharge from the Army, they moved to Salt Lake City to start a life together.
After working for Business Engineers in Salt Lake City for more than 20 years, John demonstrated his entrepreneurial spirit and went into business for himself selling office forms. He went on to a late-life career with the JACL Credit Union and retired at the age of 75.
No one enjoyed the outdoors more than John and he was proud of his garden bounty. He liked watching almost all sports, and was an avid bowler and golfer. Most of all, he treasured the beauty and grandeur of the Uintah Mountains where he loved to fish and spend time with his family. He travelled many summers to Seattle, WA where he dug for clams and watched boat races. He also loved singing with the church choir.
John is survived by his wife, Beverly, his children Chris (Mitchell) Kamens, Sandra Kikuchi, Paul (Leslie Robinson) Kikuchi and Tammy (Calvin) Nakamura, grandchildren Nicholas Kislo, Alex Kikuchi, Isaac (Marie-Angela) Kikuchi, Grace Nakamura and his niece Candy Andrus. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Florence Toy.
Funeral services will be held at Japanese Church of Christ, 268 W. 100 So., Salt Lake City, UT on Friday, June 20, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. A lunch at the church to celebrate John’s life will follow the service. A viewing for friends and family will be held at a viewing, Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., on Thursday, June 19, 2014, from 6-8 p.m A private interment will be at Mountain View Memorial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John Kikuchi’s name to the Japanese Church of Christ.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at the Mount Olympus Care Center and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City. Also, we would like to thank his nurses Cindy Sutter and Shellie Brown, and all those who visited Dad at the care center, especially Jani Iwamoto Fukumitsu.
