Shelley “G.G.” Rideout Watson

June 7, 1944 — June 19, 2018

Shelley “G.G.” Rideout Watson, at age 74, returned to live with her Heavenly Father on June 19, 2018 in the comfort of her home. From her birth in Salt Lake City on June 7, 1944 to her death on Tuesday, she spent all of her time giving of herself with a pure love of Christ. She used her time here on earth to give unconditional love to her sweetheart Ken Watson whom she married on December 11, 1967 and the six boys that blessed her to be a mother. Her dedication to her family was shown through countless hours of devotion to her children’s education by volunteering at the school and PTA involvement, by rebounding basketballs at the gym, teaching them to appreciate music, and making them believe that they could do anything because she believed in them. Shelley made it her mission to gather the family often while the boys were young and continued the tradition as children were married and grandkids came along. Keeping the family first, a believer in the family that prays together stays together, and making lasting memories were a top priority for her. Just as important as her family’s well-being, came the needs of others. She capitalized on every opportunity that presented itself, and even created opportunities where she saw fit, to give selflessly in order to lighten someone’s load and make their burden easier to bear. Whether it was reading to others, lending a shoulder to cry on, playing the piano at a nursing home, helping with addiction through 12 step recovery, multiple service missions, or years of temple service, Shelley truly lost herself in the service of others.
She is preceded in death by her father Joe Rideout, her son Devin Watson, her mother Virginia (Cahoon) Rideout, and her brother Dave Rideout.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ken Watson, her five sons Matthew (Loni) Watson, Nate (Josalyn) Watson, Dusty (Cortnee) Watson, Brandon Watson, Parrish Watson, 14 grandchildren, her brothers Steve (Candice) Rideout, Dan (Jane) Rideout, Jan (Dave) Rideout, and several nieces and nephews.
Shelley had an ability to light up the room with her sense of humor and will be remembered as a ray of positive sunshine who sent spiritual text messages daily to a long list of people in hopes of brightening their day in a small way. One of her most recent messages that she sent before passing said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” ?
