Shawna Smith

March 5, 1948 — March 16, 2015

Shawna J. Turner Smith, age 67, returned to the arms of her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 16, 2015. She was surrounded by her family and beloved dog “Maggie.” Shawna was born on March 5, 1948 in Salt Lake City. She was the loving daughter of John and Betty Turner. She married the love of her life, Gary William Smith, on December 1, 1972. They were sealed in the Jordan River Temple for time and all eternity on December 11, 1984.
Shawna was a wonderful wife, loving and caring mother and a shining example of service and gratitude to her grandchildren. She attended every sporting event, dance recital, school activity and church event in which her children and grandchildren were participants. She loved spending time with family, going on trips, picnics in the mountains and spending time outdoors. Shawna received great satisfaction serving as the Sunday School Secretary, working in the nursery and teaching the sunbeams in her LDS ward. She enjoyed caring for her parents, whom she loved dearly. She valued times of peace and solitude as well as the company of close friends and loved ones.
Shawna was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her husband, Gary Smith; daughter, Brooke Walker; sons, Sean (Julie) Walker, Chris (Sarah) Smith, Ryan (Megan) Smith; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.
A viewing will be held in her honor on Saturday March 21th from 9:45-10:45 am at the Butler West Stake Center, 1845 E 7200 S, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am at the Butler West Stake Center following the viewing. Shawna will be laid to rest at Mountain View Memorial.
