Shauna Marie Avila passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2022, at the young age of 58. She was born on May 27, 1963, to Marci Nielsen in Salt Lake County, UT. She married James Avila on March 30, 1979, and they had three children: Santiago, Joseph, and Amber; later divorced.
Her entire life was dedicated to her children and then her grandbabies. She loved nothing more than family time doing anything they could just to be together, and really anything to see her grandbabies. She loved the outdoors; anything from gardening, camping, fishing and of course cooking the fresh fish. She loved to cook, especially for Sunday night dinner, always trying a new recipe to share. If she wasn’t outside, you would find her snuggled up under a blanket knitting, reading, or rearranging her elephant collection. She is an advocate for early child development and childcare. She spent her entire career representing education across all levels. She was known for her presence on many boards and her excellent grant writing abilities. She shared the voice of children near and far, with her demand for equality. She left a mark everywhere she went. She will be missed at home and in the childcare community that she so fiercely served.
She is survived by her children Santiago (Joni), Joseph (Jennifer), Amber (Sean); Eight Grandchildren Jaiden (Seth), McKinlee, Jenika, Nicolaas (Sami), Gage, Archer, Kaycee, Ella; Sister Linda (Doug); Niece Megahn; Nephew Ryan; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends.
She is preceded in death by her Mom Marci Nielsen, Dad Glenn Nielsen, Grandma Toni Hulse and Freckles, the spoiled dog that kept her on her toes.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday April 16, 2022 at 1:00pm, at Memorial Lakeview Mortuary and Cemetery 1640 Lakeview Dr, Bountiful, UT 84010. A celebration of life will be held on May 7, 2022 in West Jordan, UT.Service Information
