Sharon Crandall

July 7, 1946 — July 5, 2021

Sharon Crandall transitioned from mortality peacefully at her home in Pleasant Grove, Utah on Monday, July 5, 2021 – just two days shy of her 75 th birthday. Born in Salt Lake City on July 7, 1946, Sharon Lynn Steglich was the daughter of George Richard Steglich and Shirley Rae Sutton. She grew up in what is now West Valley City, graduated from Granite High School (Go Farmers!), and received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in Library Science from Brigham Young University.

She loved the world of books and developed a specialty of facilitating the spread of literacy through her 30 years employed by the Utah State Library, Division for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. During this time Sharon developed a volunteer program at the Utah State Prison in which inmates at the prison recorded and her office produced audio books that have been helpful to sight-impaired patrons. She then accepted a position from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to manage the Church Educational System’s resource library for 10 years.

She served as a docent at the then Museum of Church History and Art, an usher at Temple Square and the Conference Center, and a temple worker at the LDS Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple. She enjoyed a variety of callings that included Relief Society president in the Fourteenth Ward of the Salt Lake Stake and girls’ camp director for 20+ years in the Utah Taylorsville Stake.

Ever a true blue Cougar fan and avid Jazz supporter, she loved sports as well as traveling, reading, and classical music.

Throughout her 11 years battling cancer, she was ever grateful for the care she received from the medical staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, the tender attention from the staff of Inspiration Hospice, and the many family and friends who provided support and constant encouragement.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Robert “Butch” Steglich and Doug Allred, husband Martin “Marty” O. Crandall, and step children Robert Crandall, Lentz Crandall, Maureen Mallory, Geraldine Goldsmith, LaWana Whitehead, and Elwin Crandall.

Survivors include her sister Sue Nelson, nieces Patricia Dubbeld and Michelle Nixon, step children Richard Crandall, Mary Jane Johnson, and Theodore “Ted” Crandall, and numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to a viewing Thursday night (July 8) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary on 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay or a brief viewing beginning at 10 a.m. before the funeral.
