Sela Nuku Kamoto

June 5, 1937 — May 30, 2020

Sela Nuku Kamoto was born on June 5,1937 in Mo’ung’one, Haapai, Tonga to Feleti & Ana Alisi Saafi. She was the oldest of 14 children. Sela married Sione Valingi Kamoto on August 1958 in Nukualofa, Tongatapu, Tonga and was later sealed to him on January 13, 2011 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Sela passed away peacefully on May 30, 2020 in her home in Salt Lake City, Utah where she was surrounded by her loved ones.
Sela was a God-fearing woman. Sela was baptized as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints on September 11, 1985  in Salt Lake City where she was also endowed in the Salt Lake Temple on September 20, 1985. Sela served faithfully in any and all of her church callings, She Loved the gospel, doing Temple work, family geneology, reading & studying her scriptures. She loved knitting, crocheting, singing in Ward Choirs, fixing and making Tongan Mats because she was very talented with her hands. Sela was very independent. She was a woman with a big heart who loved to serve others whenever she could and also help others willingly.  Sela was very family oriented. She loved being around family.
Sela is survived by her 4 children; Lopeti (Ana) Panisi, Hale (Eniti)Panisi, Mata Moana (Maka) Taufo’ou, and  Feofaaki (Uili) Ahokovi, Her 12 grandchildren Jessie Gilbert, Atunaisa Panisi, Sela (Fatai) Tuiono, Lovely (Ula), Michael(Dragana) Panisi, Longo Marie Panisi, Ilangana (Pauline) Taufo’ou, Hufanga Taufo’ou, Faahivalu Taufo’ou, Tevita Taufo’ou,Katalina Saula Ahokovi, and Meliame Panisi Saula Ahokovi. Her 12 great grandchildren;  Rierie aka Mama, Fatai Tuiono aka Leka, Lopeti Malcolm Panisi Jr,  Ivenice Taufo’ou, Elijah Taufo’ou, Augustine Taufo’ou, Harmony, Naomi, Moana and Marie Taufo’ou, Maka Jr, and Mateialona Taufo’ou. and siblings, Kalo Tuikolovatu (Tonga), Lotoa Saafi (Tonga), Muli Saafi (Tonga), Losehina Saafi (Salt Lake City, Utah), Taniela Saafi (Oakland, California) and Palu Fanua (Tonga).
She is preceded in death by her parents Feleti and Ana Alisi Sa’afi, husband Sione Valingi Kamoto and siblings, Seini Mafi, Asaeli Saafi, Taunga Saafi, Lisala Saafi and Luseane Saafi.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sela’s viewing and funeral service will be attended by her immediate family, however, the public is welcome to join the family viewing and funeral via Zoom live-streaming June 5, 2020 from 9:00 – 12:00 PM. All who wish to attend her graveside service are welcome on June 5, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123 in the garden of Tranquility.
