Sarah Adelaide Weaver Cowles

April 9, 1929 — July 18, 2018

Sarah Adelaide Weaver Cowles passed away peacefully on July 18, 2018 at her home in Salt Lake City.  She was born on April 9, 1929 in Lago, Bannock, Idaho, to Reao Weaver and Estella Bergetta Mickelson.  During her youth she learned to play the piano, clarinet, and Straight C Saxophone–which she played along with schoolmate Olive Davis–the mother of the famous Osmond’s–at the Buttermilk School in Thatcher, Idaho, where her father taught music and Olive’s father, Thomas Davis, was the principal.  In 1951-1953, Adelaide served a 22 month long proselytizing mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day in the West Central States Mission.  She was called by Elder Legrand Richards and set apart by Elder Matthew Cowley.  Following her mission she worked in California and Idaho.  In 1962 she met and was briefly married to Robert Kealamakia.
In 1968 Adelaide met Willis (Bill) Howard Cowles, and they were married on November 1, 1968 in Idaho Falls.  Following their marriage Bill and Adelaide traveled extensively and served a number of LDS Church missions, including the following: In 1976-1978 they served a proselyting mission in the Ohio-Columbus Mission which was later changed to the Ohio Cleveland Mission–and were the first directors of the John Johnson Home in Hiram, Ohio, in that mission.  In 1978-1984 they served a Temple Mission at the Salt Lake Temple.  In 1989-1991 they served a Temple Mission at the Sydney Temple in Australia.  In 1991-1993, Adelaide served a Family History Mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah–where she extracted Icelandic genealogical information.  And in 1994 to 2005 they served as Service Missionaries at a Senior Citizens facility in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Adelaide served in every auxiliary organization of the LDS Church and worked twenty-five years in the MIA.  She sang with the Schubert Singers for ten years (1983-1993) and with the J. Welch Choral.  She was proud of her ancestry and was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.  Adelaide was a very positive and loving person and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She enjoyed singing, entertaining, cooking, dancing, fishing, reading and traveling.  Her sharing and caring influence was felt by many people throughout her life.
Adelaide is proceeded in death by her parents, her brother, Reao Martell Weaver (who died in 2009), and her husband, Willis (Bill) Howard Cowles (who passed away in 2006).  She is survived by two nieces, Paulette Weaver and Vickie Weaver (Katseanes), and two nephews, Denny Martell Weaver and Chad Harlow Weaver.
