Sandra Stroud

March 7, 1944 — January 21, 2017

Sandy, 72, passed away January 21, 2017. She had valiantly battled chronic lung disease and other health issues for much of the last 20 years and had defied the odds many times. She was a loving and generous mother, grandmother and sister. Sandy was born March 7, 1944 to Violet Miller. She was raised in Panguitch, Utah, by her grandfather, Joseph Miller, whom she called ‘Dad’. She later moved to Salt Lake City at age 13 to live with her mother and step-father and care for her new baby brother, Kevin. She attended West and Granger High Schools and graduated from Granger High in 1962. She later attended the University of Utah where she majored in communications. Sandy had several careers including bookkeeping, photography, and licensed Real Estate agent, all of which she truly enjoyed and made many lifelong friends. She also held several church positions in the Butler 17th Ward and as a worker in the Salt Lake Temple.
Sandy married Steven Alexander Stroud June 28, 1962 and had 2 daughters. Although they were later divorced, they maintained a close relationship. She loved spending time with her girls and later her grandsons. Sandy loved photography, reading, poetry, researching genealogy, spending time at Moon Lake with her family, going to plays with her sister-in-law, and cheering on the Utes and Jazz.
Sandy is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Tracy) Anderson and Shawna (Brandt) Smith; grandsons Marek, Alek, and Ayden Anderson; brother Kevin Sweek; sister-in-law Vicki Stroud and ex-husband, Steve Stroud.
The family wishes to express sincere thanks to First Choice Health and Hospice, Dr. Nathan Allred, who had cared for Sandy for the last 10 years, and to the entire staff at Intermountain Medical Center,  especially the staff of the Respiratory ICU, and to the many friends and family members that cared for her during her illness.
