Samuel Chance Luker

April 30, 1970 — July 16, 2017

Samuel Chance Luker, beloved son, devoted husband, loving brother, brother-in-law, uncle, adored nephew and cousin and treasured friend was suddenly returned to his Father in Heaven on July 16th 2017.

Chance was born April 30th 1970 to Monte Thomas and Sylvia Graff Luker, who lovingly raised him in the Harvard-Yale neighborhood of Salt Lake City Utah. Chance graduated from East High School & afterward served a mission for the LDS Church in North Carolina where he had a tremendous influence on the lives of many. Chance earned his Bachelors of Science, Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Utah, and later obtained his Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Chance was the director of Sterile Processing for many years at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA where he dynamically changed, updated and improved the sterilizing of instruments for surgeries. He was featured on the local news for his efforts in improving safety and effectiveness at all Virginia Mason’s surgical locations. He earned many certificates and awards and enjoyed the yearly conferences. Sam, as many of his co-workers knew him, was a great asset to Virginia Mason and truly cherished by all who knew him. Sam had a special way of loving people. He made anyone he spoke to feel as if they were the most important person.

Chance met his true love, Waleska in 1995 and they spent the next few years learning to Salsa dance and enjoy her beautiful culture from the Dominican Republic. They were married for time and all eternity in the Bountiful Temple on October 29, 1999. Their love for each other was extraordinary. It was a marriage of true devotion, and Chance always called Waleska his Queen. They made a great team. They visited and cared for people in their Elliott Bay LDS Ward and were greatly loved for their gentle service to others.

Chance was a generous and loving person, beautiful inside and out, and possessed the humility of a truly righteous man. His great spirit was a blessing to many in this life, especially to his parents who called him their Golden Boy. He was a genuine friend, loyal and caring. He was patient and kind, preferring to teach by love. He was a great protector and example of charity to his siblings and always had plenty of affection for his nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the many people involved in caring for Chance and his family during his last few days here on earth. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Harborview Medical Center for their tender and excellent care. We would also like to thank Jen and Brooke at the Life Center Northwest for making Chance’s final wish of organ donation possible. Everyone’s genuine concern and care for Chance touched our hearts forever. An amazing thank you also goes to the Elliott Bay LDS Ward for all their service they provided to Waleska and Chance’s family during this difficult time.

Chance was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul K. Graff and Alan Todd Luker, and is survived by his beloved wife Waleska Luker, four wonderful brothers and sisters who love him very much, Scott LaMar (Cathy) Luker, Chante Luker (Mickey) Vriens, Marinda Martha (Michael) Bowen, and Monte Eugene Luker; his kind and caring in laws Silveria (Mark) Nielsen, Keila (Hayden) Mower, & Rody (Jody) Baez, and loving parents, Monte Thomas and Sylvia Graff Luker. Chance will also be greatly missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many loyal friends.
