Ruth Whiteley

Ruth Holley Whiteley was born on June 28, 1930 in Mapleton, Utah to John Isaac and Wilda Perry Holley. She died in her home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, July 16, 2015. She was married to her eternal companion Dr. John Wesley Whiteley for 65 years. They married June 14, 1950 and were sealed a year later in the Manti Temple on June 29, 1951. She is survived by her husband, her 6 children and spouses; Mike Whiteley, Jim Whiteley (Diane), David Whiteley, Holley Petitta (Bill), Lisa Whiteley and Paula Brome (John), her 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and Sister Catherine Anne Jensen (Fremont, CA). She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Perry Holley, Grace Olson, Mack Holley, Wanda Holley, Mildred Mendenhall and her daughter-in-law Betty Whiteley.
As a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother she actively participated in her family’s lives by attending sporting events, birthdays, weddings, baptisms, graduations, as well as traveling across the world to pay a visit. She was truly everyone’s number one fan! Ruth found great joy in home-making and creating a loving atmosphere inside her home. She shared her creative talents by planning and decorating for many activities, sending various cards and gifts regularly to friends and loved ones. She literally kept the United States Postal Service in business!
Her husband John was an involved member of the Utah Veterinary Medical Association (UVMA) for over 30 years. While serving as the President of the women’s auxiliary group she planned and coordinated many activities involving the people within the community.
Ruth was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. There she served diligently and honorably as Stake Relief Society President, Young Women’s President and Primary Chorister along with many other leadership rolls. She and John were called to serve as Temple Workers for the Jordan River Temple. They were also called to a Service Mission in downtown Salt Lake City where she was the Young Women’s President. Above all else she was a dedicated Visiting Teacher that sincerely loved getting to know the women of the ward.
Ruth believed in giving service, loving thy neighbor and forgiving others and did just that. She touched so many lives around her and loved every one that ever crossed her path. She led us all by example and for that we will be forever grateful. We will all miss her, but will carry her Legacy in our hearts.

All Viewing and Funeral Services will be held at her LDS church building. The Address is7784 SouthHighland Drive (2000 E), Cottonwood Heights, Utah, 84121. The viewing will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from 6:00-8:00pm and Monday, July 27, 2015 from 9:30-10:30 am. Funeral services will immediately follow the viewing session on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place that afternoon (2:30 pm) at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah after the family luncheon.
