Ruth Torres

January 28, 1926 — January 5, 2021

On January 5th, 2021 our loving Aunt, Ruth Torres, left her earthly home to join loved ones on the other side of the veil. She was warmly greeted in heaven by her parents; Rafael Alvarez Torres and Dolores Rivera Torres, her three brothers; Luis, Elias, Rey, sister Regina Chavez, and many other family members who preceded her in death.
Ruth was born on January 28, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ruth was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and one of the first members of the Mexican Branch. She was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Mexico Mission in June 1946. She was a strong, loving, kind person who spent her life in the selfless service of others. She was the Aunt who remembered all the nieces and nephews on their birthdays, attended all the baptisms, mission farewells, bridal and baby showers and weddings. She was the best friend anyone could have and because of this trait she had many, many wonderful friends.
Ruth was the first female in her family to graduate from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in High School Education on August 27, 1949. Ruth obtained her Teaching Certificates in both Utah and California. She began her teaching career in Utah and retired in California after teaching more than 40 years.
Ruth enjoyed traveling. She traveled the world and saw many exotic and interesting countries. She loved all the cultures and traditions that each country offered. She also had great passion for the Arts; painting, sculpture, music and the art of bullfighting. She was an avid reader and instilled a love of books in many of her family members.
Ruth’s words of wisdom were “a sense of humor is the most essential tool in life.” What an example she was to all who had the privilege to know her!
Ruth is survived by her brother Carlos Torres, many cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.
