Ruth Emily Moon Draper Olsen

June 10, 1922 — October 29, 2018

Ruth Emily Moon Draper Olsen, beloved mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend, died peacefully on October 29, 2018. Ruth was born in Burley, Idaho on June 10, 1922 and spent her early childhood days in rural Idaho and Cache County, Utah. Ruth graduated from South Cache High School in 1940. She married W. A. (Bill) Draper in June 1941 and together they had four children; Peggy, Paul, Clayton and Mary.
Bill and Ruth divorced in 1957. Ruth worked many years for Alberston’s, first starting in the bakery. She graduated from Stevens Henager College and soon transferred to Albertson’s District Office as their General Secretary.
In September 1967, Ruth married the love of her life, Ivan Olsen, and together they spent many happy years traveling, camping in their motorhome, fishing and boating. She always said her favorite vacation was running the Colorado River.
She was an expert cake decorator, ceramic doll maker, and loved to crochet. She also took pride in her Native American art collection.
Ivan and Ruth helped establish the Funny Farm in Beaver Dam, Arizona in 1984 and with their friends spent many fun-filled winters together. All of their children and grandchildren have fond memories of the time spent with grandpa and grandma at the Funny Farm.
After Ivan’s death in 2006, Ruth made the Funny Farm her permanent residence and was happy living there until her passing. She thought she had the best view in the whole place and took pride in knowing the comings and goings of each day. She especially looked forward to visits from her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved each one dearly.
Her life changed when her step-son, Steve Olsen, gave her a computer and taught her the basics like Facebook, Spider Solitaire and Mahjong. She enjoyed the many hours she spent with her Facebook friends and family, and also playing-until-she-won, her favorite computer games. Her family and friends delighted in her personality displayed from her keyboard and looked forward to her comments. LUL Grandma!
She also looked forward to playing cards with her children and grandchildren and even though she rarely won a game, she was always ready and willing to play!
She loved to read and could often be found at her kitchen table by the window reading a book. She was a very fast reader and could finish a lengthy novel in just a few days.
Ruth was a very independent woman and was used to having things her way. She knew what she wanted and how she wanted it and there was usually very little that could change her mind. She loved telling her granddaughters and great-granddaughters to, “Go get-em Girl!”
Grandma you are loved by many and will be sorely missed!
Ruth is survived by children; Paul and Carey (Draper), Jay and Tracey (Olsen), Clayton and Sandee (Draper), Steve and Barbara (Olsen), Mary and Dave (Cabrera), Mark and Christy (Olsen), Sister, Vera Badger, step-brothers, Jerald and Gaylene (Moon), LaRoy and Donna (Moon), half-brothers, Earl (Moon), Lance and Deanna (Moon), half-sister, Karla and Marshall (Williams), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
