Ruby M. Johnsen Adolphson

May 9, 1924 — February 14, 2019

Our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Ruby Mehner Johnsen Adolphson, age 94, passed away peacefully on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2019 with family by her side. Born May 9, 1924 in Salt Lake City, UT to Ervin Daniel and Ida Susanne Mehner Johnsen. Ruby grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School. After High School she worked at the Remington Arms Plant packing bullets for the war effort. At her next job, she would ride the train up the “Bamberger” rail line to Clearfield each day where she worked for the Naval Supply Depot until the end of the war. In 1947 she married Eldon Mace Obert, and a year later they welcomed their son Daniel Eldon. When Danny was four, Mace and Ruby divorced. She then worked in the office for the construction company “Wonderlick, Curlett, & Thompkins” that built the Veterans’ Administration Hospital on the east bench of Salt Lake City. At the end of its completion she was employed in the office at the University of Utah Printing Department. She worked there until 1958 when she met and married James Robert Adolphson. He brought Paul Robert (12), and Eileen Kay (9) to the marriage. She then quit working to be home and raise Paul, Eileen and Dan. Their family expanded when John James was born in 1960, Carl Thomas in 1962, and Joseph Roger in 1964. Later as the kids grew up she began working for Davis School Foods at Taylor Elementary School. She retired at age 62 working at Muir Elementary School in Bountiful. For the last 33 years she has lived a life of service. She was a member of “Senior Friends” at the Lake View Hospital, and a member of the “Red Hat Society”. For over 30 years she has taught the stained glass class and ceramics class at the Golden Years Center in Bountiful. She has entered her work in the Davis County Fair and received the “Best of Show” twice, and always blue ribbons. For the last several years she has been taking an oil painting class. In 2002 she earned President Bush’s “Presidents Volunteer Service Award” for completing over 4,000 hours of service. Since then her hour count has continued to grow right up to her last day! Ruby was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held a variety of callings over her lifetime. She was well loved, and an instant friend to everyone she met. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by son Paul (Shirley) Adolphson, daughter Eileen (Jon) Ringwood, and sons Dan (Donna) Obert, John (Julie) Adolphson, and Tom (Misty) Adolphson. 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and brother Woodrow. Preceded in death by her husband James, son Joseph and Brothers Ervin, Norden, Ferris and Fred. Funeral services will be held Friday February 22nd, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the 36th Ward Chapel, located at 102 E 1400 S, Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:00-10:30 AM. An evening viewing will be held Thursday February 21, 2019 from 6:30-8:30 PM also at the church. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery, 1640 E Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, UT.
